One Month Old

Will is laying next to me now looking around all bright eyed and squirming like crazy. This first month of his life has been so much fun for Zach and I. We've discovered that the infant stage is really amusing even without the interaction an older baby gives. Will has been so interesting to watch as he gazes at us and tries to take in his surroundings. He makes all kinds of facial expressions and fun little noises. I try to capture his cute faces with the camera but the pictures never look as cute as he is! He recognizes our voices and likes them. We can tell when he is happy and know that if he is fussy he's either in need of a bottle or a clean diaper. So far, pretty simple. I don't think that I have felt that 'super exhaustion' that new moms told me about, only because Zach is home and we take turns with night feedings. At about week 4 I think we both hit a new level of tired, missing full night sleeps, but it still is not so bad. He only gets up once in the middle of the night and I usually take that feeding. Zach gets the early morning feeding then we both have often been taking a morning nap when Will does :o)
With summer approaching of course we have been busy with all kinds of social engagements including BBQ's, grad parties, trips to Zach's mom's resort etc etc and Will doesn't mind being a social butterfly at all! We are so lucky that he is such a laid back, easy going baby, it's simple to pass him around at parties or tuck him in his car seat for naps-on-the-go. He has had many visitors these past weeks as well. His Grandpa, Grandma and Uncle Chris came home from Washington to see him. Many of our aunts and uncles as well as several of our friends have come to visit Will at home too. Today was the second BBQ he has been to at his Uncle Paul's house. A bit chilly (come on summer!!!) but the kabobs were delicious!
Zach and I were able to spend some time together without baby over Memorial Day weekend. Grandma Nancy babysat while we took a 3 hour canoe trip down the Mississippi between Cass Lake and Lake Winnie. It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed ourselves. We will have to practice more time away from Will since we are one month away from our annual houseboat trip where we will leave him for 5 nights with Grandma Renee. I really think I will do ok, but I will have to have a couple of overnights without him just to practice.
Some stats:
  • umbilical cord fell out at 15 days old
  • today he is 21" long
  • don't know true weight but he is somewhere in the upper 8 pounds
  • he is still eating during the day about every two hours and has 4 oz at a time
  • he is on the verge of a smile (a genuine smile, not a toot smile) and I think it will be within days that he starts to really grin because of happiness or amusement
  • he likes a nuk, but only right before he falls asleep
  • he loves music before bed either from his mobile, me singing or from the iPod set up in his room (currently playing Greatest Classical Love Themes)
  • he is almost out of his newborn size clothes and diapers. I think by weeks end he will be in the 0-3 month old size clothes and he will for sure be in size 1 diapers

And that's about it as I have just reread this blog and won't be surprised if I have bored you to tears! Hey, he's 5 weeks old! Not much to report ;o) other than Mommy and Daddy are totally head over heels crazy-in-love with Will and can't believe that we are so lucky to have birthed the CUTEST human being ever in the history of man-kind! LOL!! Sorry, biased new mommy with rose colored glasses on! Stay tuned.
