Tidbits

Things you may not know about our son Will:
  • We chose his name long before he was born...long before we knew he was a boy; in fact it was a name we agreed on before I was pregnant. In Zach's family, the first son's middle name is his father's first name. So naturally Will's middle name is Zachary. His first name, William is in memory of Zach's dad who died suddenly in 1999 at the age of 49 from a heart attack. Zach's dad went by 'Bill' and we chose 'Will' partly to give him his own name and partly because it is a little more updated for our time. So William Zachary shares all three of his names with his daddy who of course is Zachary William Swenson, as Zach is the oldest son and carries his father's first name as his middle. William is Germanic and means 'Protector' while Zachary is Hebrew and means 'The Lord Remembers' so together it's Protector the Lord remembers. That's beautiful.
  • Will was born on April 28th which was also my great-grandma Lottie Grace Marsh's birthday. If Will would have been a girl, his middle name would actually have been Grace after her. It seems that he still managed to share something with this special lady.
  • Will has no birth marks like his mommy had but has webbed toes like his daddy! All of the men on the Swenson side have two toes on each foot that are webbed together. The toes eventually grow longer and the web becomes much less apparent. But with his itty-bitty toes you can see it and it is too cute!
  • He loves to be sung to when he is rocked and since the rocking chair is next to the book shelf I am often dragging out the old green Lutheran Book of Worship. He likes 'Thine Is the Glory' and a camp song called 'Blindman' which is a little more lively than your standard lullaby.
  • He will be baptized in Princeton at Trinity Lutheran on July 26th. His God-Mother is my friend Erica who I have known since 1st grade. She was my maid of honor as I was hers and I am God-Mother to her first baby Alexis who is now 8. His God-Father is Zach's cousin Chad who was Bill's only nephew. Zach and Chad are the same age and have always been close as friends and cousins. Both Erica and Chad are special people to us and we are so honored that they will play such important roles in Will's life.

These are just some of the things you may have been wondering about. I'll post again in a couple of days when Will is one month old (ALREADY!!!) and share some of the highlights and pictures from his first 30 days on Earth :o)
