9 Month Check-Up

Last Friday we took Will to the doc for his 9 month wellness check. He was weighed and measured, poked and prodded and sent on his way until his 12 month. He got his flu booster as well as his H1N1 shots and only cried for a couple of moments. Will can be so easily distracted with a toy or some snack puffs and he snaps right out of it. I just hold his hand and don't pay any attention to the nurses, so I get out of there pretty unscathed too. Though I hate to see those Snoopy band-aids on his little thighs.
He has not grown nearly as much as I thought he did. He is getting so heavy to carry and all of his pants are getting shorter by the day. Since his 6 month check-up he has only gained 2 pounds! What a wimpy mommy!! He is 19 pounds 10 ounces and 27 3/4 inches. He is around the 35th percentile for both height and weight...but his brain is growing nicely so his head is at the 68th percentile. So smart :) The doc said we can move away from baby food and switch to regular table food. Little does she know I have a cupboard full of mushy green beans, apples and squash. He's stuck with the jarred stuff for a few more weeks anyway.
He is crawling at mach speed and has proven to be quite the little climber. He loves the stairs (why are babies so fascinated with stairs??) and takes them with big steps at a time. Of course we are standing right behind him so he doesn't get far before he is carried off to find a different adventure.
I take his picture on the 28th of every month and this month has definitely been the most challenging. He doesn't want to sit still for the camera now that he knows how to go go go. Posing him in a chair and trying to keep him there was a bit complicated and I think it will now have to be a two man operation. Little stinker!!

Sunday was a big day for him, learning and discovering all kinds of things...taking the steps was just one new trick that day...but he didn't stop there. He discovered the Tupperware cupboard all on his own, and did not yield in taking everything out to use them as drums. He also discovered that he could patty-cake on his own and by supper he was doing "So Big" on his own as well! If I ask him to do 'So Big' this week he starts to clap...so he isn't a pro yet...but I'd give him the weekend and he'll know the difference! He is keeping us on our toes!
