I've had a very interesting week. Last Sunday I was hit hard with a wicked cold that wiped me out and sent me to bed for days. By Thursday I knew I needed to head to the doc. He told me that he was pretty sure I had pneumonia...but of course without x-rays he couldn't say for sure. So I was treated for pneumonia and sent back to bed. I have never had it before, so that was a wake up call as to how terrible it makes you feel. I rested up over the weekend because I knew I was headed out of town to Remer to spend some time with my Grandma. Zach let me stay in bed while he tended to Grandpa's meals and the mail because even those tasks wore me out! I am on the mend with a lot more energy and just the icky cough left.
On Monday Paul picked me up and we headed to Grandma's for a few days. It was very restful and nice to visit. On Tuesday we decided to head to the local muni so Grandma, my brother and Ryan (Paul's girlfriend) could have a cocktail and try their luck at pull tabs. I ordered a Cherry Coke and watched as the bartender filled over half the glass with cherry juice. Ok. It was sweet, at least what I could taste of it with my nose all plugged up. After a quarter of the drink was gone I asked the next bartender (shift change) to put more Coke in it...try to make it taste better. I didn't want to sound like a paranoid pregnant lady but I was sure it wasn't some off brand grenadine since I could feel the heat in my cheeks rise up. So I asked what they put in it. She asked what I ordered and when I told her she looked at me kinda side-ways as she held up the bottle of Ice Hole Cherry Schnapps! I pushed the drink away and said "I'm pregnant!!" She told me it wasn't illegal to serve me and that most people meant a Cherry Bomb. What??? Only in some po-dunk town do you ask for a Cherry Coke and get a glass full of booze! I only had a quarter of the drink, so I am not so concerned about the alcohol consumption but COME ON PEOPLE!!! Needless to say I was promptly served what I asked for and the rest of my group was treated very nicely...they even won the big numbers out of the pull tab box, making them break even. Am I an idiot for not recognizing the alcohol? I don't feel like it...just glad I questioned it before sucking it down!
Now if Will is anything like his dad (and I am sure he will be) this is the journal entry that he'll some day read and brag to his friends that he was drinkin' in a bar before he was born! LOL!
We got home from Remer yesterday and I headed out to the pregnant people clothing store. Ugh! I have had to buy some items of course but have really been able to avoid those obnoxious, flouncy, maternity tops up until now. After trying on several tops I have decided that the baby business is a racket. They really have you hog tied...literally... as every shirt seems to have a rope around the waste to accentuate the baby bump! The cost of these items are ridiculous, but they have you right where they want you...big and naked if you don't buy their stuff! With my regular clothes on I looked normal, but when I tried on those stupid tops I looked like I needed an ambulance ride to the hospital so I could deliver a baby! Of course I purchased a few of these...going as basic and non-fluffy as possible! I am sure many of you will get to see me model some of these over-priced garments in the near future!
I have an appointment this coming Tuesday when I will be 32 weeks along. This will be my last 3 week appointment as I'll switch to every 2 weeks for a bit than I'll be down to my once a week visits! We are getting closer!
No nursery yet, but as I type Joe and Zach are wiring the attic for lights and outlets. We (and by we I mean Zach) will insulate and sheet rock it for a new office, making room for the nursery.
My first shower is at work tomorrow but I have been unsuccessful in talking Zach into coming with me. :o) His hours have been cut at work to 4 day weeks, giving him Fridays off. He hasn't heard how long this will go on but is guessing that it won't be more than a couple of months. So with the plumber who doesn't work Fridays and the electrician who is laid off working upstairs in the attic, I suppose it will soon be Miller time since neither of them are working tomorrow! With my bad behavior this week, maybe I can just talk them into going to the bar for ladies night! Just kidding.
